About Ardmore Flying School

AFS established in 1961 is recognised internationally as a quality facility, providing consistently high standards in all aspects of flight training. It provides computer based interactive training and restricts class size to no more than 20 students for individual attention. It has a fleet of 20 modern aircraft (17 x Cessna 172R some equipped with Garmin 1000 "glass cockpit" avionics and 3 x Beech-craft Model 76 Duchess equipped with top class conventional instruments and industry standard GPS. It also has 35 qualified and experienced Flight Instructors (ranging from 300 to 30,000 flight hours).

Aviation Courses

Ardmore Flying School provides fully integrated pilot training - theory (ground school) and flying - you do not need student pilot license or prior ground training or flying experience to join. It provides Diploma and Certificate aviation qualifications as well as a number of training programs including the following popular programs:

Commercial Pilot Licence

On completion students will have Commercial Pilot License (CPL) including Private Pilot License (PPL). Course includes theory (ground training and CAANZ exams for 12 papers) and practical training for 205 hours. Duration 12 months. All inclusive fee including theory (ground training) tuition, flying, simulator training, course materials, exam fees, flight test fees, license issue fee, landing and airway charges, CAANZ English proficiency test fee, medical renewal, uniform and compulsory travel and medical insurance is USD 50,000 (INR 32 Lakhs).

Indian Program

On completion students will have Commercial Pilot License (CPL) including Private Pilot License (PPL) and 25 hours Instrument Flight Time (Multi-Engine). Course includes theory (ground training and CAANZ exams for 12 papers) and practical training for 215 hours. Duration 14 months. All inclusive fee including theory (ground training) tuition, flying, simulator training, course materials, exam fees, flight test fees, license issue fee, landing and airway charges, CAANZ English proficiency test fee, medical renewal, uniform and compulsory travel and medical insurance is USD 55,000 (INR 35 Lakhs)

Commercial Pilot Licence with Multi Engine Instrument Rating (Certificate Level 5)

On completion students will have Commercial Pilot License (CPL) including Private Pilot License (PPL) and Multi Engine Instrument Rating (53 hours - ME 36 and SE 17) Course includes theory (ground training and CAANZ exams for 15 papers) and practical training for 235 hours. Duration 16 months. All inclusive fee including theory (ground training) tuition, flying, simulator training, course materials, exam fees, flight test fees, license issue fee, landing and airway charges, CAANZ English proficiency test fee, medical renewal, uniform and compulsory travel and medical insurance is USD 62,000 (INR 40 Lakhs)

Diploma in Aviation (Airline Preparation Strand) - Level 6

On completion students will have Commercial Pilot License (CPL) including Private Pilot License (PPL), Multi Engine Instrument Rating (53 hours - ME 36 and SE 17), Airline Transport License Theory (ATPL Frozen), Basic Gas Turbine Knowledge (BGT) and Multi Crew Integration Course (MCI) which includes MCI ground course and advanced Simulator training of 36 hours including 18 hours on Boeing 737 type Simulator. Course includes theory (ground training and CAANZ exams for 23 papers) and practical training for 271 hours. Duration 20 months. All inclusive fee including theory (ground training) tuition, flying, simulator training, course materials, exam fees, flight test fees, license issue fee, landing and airway charges, CAANZ English proficiency test fee, medical renewal, uniform and compulsory travel and medical insurance is USD 75,000 (INR 48 Lakhs)

Diploma in Aviation (Flight Instructor Strand) - Level 6

On completion students will have Commercial Pilot License (CPL) including Private Pilot License (PPL), Multi Engine Instrument Rating (53 hours - ME 36 and SE 17) and "C" Cat' Instructor Rating. Course includes theory (ground training and CAANZ exams for 15 papers plus 'C' Cat Theory Course and Instructional Techniques Course) and practical training for 312 hours. Duration 21 months. All inclusive fee including theory (ground training) tuition, flying, simulator training, course materials, exam fees, flight test fees, license issue fee, landing and airway charges, CAANZ English proficiency test fee, medical renewal, uniform and compulsory travel and medical insurance is USD 85,000 (INR 55 Lakhs)

Diploma in Aviation (Both Airline Preparation and Flight Instructor Strands) - Level 6

On completion students will have Commercial Pilot License (CPL) including Private Pilot License (PPL), Multi Engine Instrument Rating (53 hours - ME 36 and SE 17), Airline Transport License Theory (ATPL Frozen), Basic Gas Turbine Knowledge (BGT), Multi Crew Integration Course (MCI) which includes MCI ground course and advanced Simulator training of 36 hours including 18 hours on Boeing 737 type Simulator and 'C" Cat Instructor Rating. Course includes theory (ground training and CAANZ exams for 23 papers plus 'C' Cat Theory Course and Instructional Techniques Course) and practical training for 345 hours. Duration 24 months. All inclusive fee including theory (ground training) tuition, flying, simulator training, course materials, exam fees, flight test fees, license issue fee, landing and airway charges, CAANZ English proficiency test fee, medical renewal, uniform and compulsory travel and medical insurance is USD 98,000 (INR 63 Lakhs)

Internship Program

AFS has an Internship program for students completing Diploma in Aviation in both streams (Airline Preparation and Flight Instruction). All Flight Instructors at AFS are selected from Internship Programme as it is AFS policy to recruit only its' diploma qualified graduates (both strands) as Flight Instructors. Diploma holders (both strands) with an impeccable training record can apply for internship position and if successful work as an intern for 6 months. Interns are paid at minimum wage (NZD 16.50 per hour) and on successful completion of internship can move to permanent employment as 'Flight Instructor'. Hence Diploma qualification (both strands) provides an opportunity for successful interns to work in New Zealand post completion and is a step towards gaining residence with confirmed employment as Flight Instructor.

Fee Payment and Protection

Tuition fees are payable in 2-5 instalments (depending upon training program selected) and first instalment is payable only after receiving student visa Approval-in-Principle letter from Immigration New Zealand. Also, fees are payable in Public Trust Account and funds are transferred from the Trust Account to Ardmore Flying School periodically (fortnightly) against statement of cost incurred. This ensures that students funds are fully protected any unutilised amount is available to the students in the highly unlikely event of school closing down.

Admission Requirements

AFS provides ab-initio integrated training including ground training and you do not need prior ground training or flying experience to join us. You only need to meet the following enrolment requirements:

  1. Be aged 18 years or above at commencement of training
  2. Passed High School with English, Maths and Physics scoring 70% or more in these subjects
  3. Have English Test Results within the last two years (IELTS or PTE or TOEFL)
  4. Have CAANZ Class 1 Medical Certificate (CAANZ medical examiners are available overseas)
  5. Achieve at least 'Average' score in online Pilot Pre-Screening Test (ADAPT)*

*ADAPT is an online pilot aptitude test, costs NZ$70 and takes 10 minutes to complete. It assesses whether you have the physical skills and personality to be successfully trained as pilot. It is a test of your natural ability to learn and process information. You can stop and start the test at any time and can re-sit the test, if required. Intake Dates

AFS has 6 scheduled intakes in 2018 starting on 29 January, 26 February, 23 April, 18 June, 6 August and 8 October. Special intakes can be considered for group of 10 or more students enrolling together.

Accommodation and Transport

AFS offers modern furnished accommodation with all utilities and amenities within 5 minutes drive from the academy. Each accommodation has common kitchen and living room facilities and 4 bedrooms. You may opt for either your own bedroom (single occupancy) or twin share bedroom.

Travel and Medical Insurance

Travel and Health Insurance is mandatory and is arranged by AFS for the entire length of the course.

Living Expense

It is a visa requirement to show evidence of funds (NZD 15,000 p.a.) for living expense (lodging, boarding, transport, entertainment, communication, etc) unless you are sponsored by a New Zealand Citizen or Residence Class Visa holder.
